Principal’s Message
Happy New Year
I hope you all had a wonderful winter break. I love this time of year when the days get longer and the outdoors becomes increasingly inviting for outdoor learning. We’re excited about Mr. Parkstrom’s winter immersion week starting Monday and the wonderful learning opportunities students will experience in skiing and exploring their local outdoors.
I would also like to take time to thank Nikta for her work on updating our amazing school website. While it is still in the update process it is now functional and I would invite you to check it out. One of the new features we are still working on is an online calendar which will allow parents to import the school schedule. I will keep you updated on the status of the site. For your information the updated site has a new address which is http://less.sd10.bc.ca

Immersion Week Schedule
Looking closely at improving our immersion week schedule we have made some changes that you should know about. The photography week is being integrated with the Archeology Immersion Week, and the Art Immersion Week is being rescheduled. These changes are reflected in the upcoming events section of this newsletter.
Teacher education
We are thrilled to have Jill Pakulak returning in late February for a university practicum placement from the WKTEP (West Kootenay Teacher Education Program) program. Many of you will have met Jill when she was here for her initial teaching round and we are fortunate to have her returning to Lucerne for her final practicum. She is a dedicated and passionate student-teacher who we were hoping to have return and who was eager for the opportunity to work with our staff and students again. She will be working with both our secondary and 4/5/6 students in Language Arts instruction. Welcome, Jill!
Mid-Year Exams
The Secondary school is coming to the end of Semester 1 on January 25th. Mid-year exams run from Wednesday, January 29th to Friday, January 31st. All students enrolled in the courses in the exam timetable are expected to attend the examination session. If no exam is scheduled for a grade, students need not attend school during that session.
This is the draft timetable; if there are any modifications students will be informed by Friday the 24th.
