April PAC Minutes 2013

Principals Report:

April 18th Student Led Conferences and Secondary Planning meeting. (Gr. 5 parents on invited).

Writer’s Festival and Arts and Drama, Friday, May 3rd = Coffee House, 7pm.

Spring into Learning at same time, will include small motors, canoe trip, and drama.

Trustees Report:

COW Meeting highlights C14YR Program in writing for young learners.

Fieldtrip Handbook getting closer.

Large IT budget this month fixing new bell/internet system.

Bargaining going well with unions.

Ask provincial candidates how they see funding education.

Principal Job posted- several applicants.

Staff cuts only happen if we have fewer students.

New Playground: Wonderful.

Motion: (Paula) we buy Art and Jamie lunch at the Apple Tree with thanks. (Carried)

Outdoor Ed: will spend up to $300 from school budget for supplies.

Motion: (Katrina) PAC gives up to $200 more. (Carried)

Indoor Plant maintenance:  invoice will be needed from PAC for plant care from Jan-June.

Outdoor Plants: Motion: to contract either Janet or Nicole Nicholson- Chodat to tend to plants in front of school and weed through the Spring and Summer up to $300 worth.  Readdress in fall.

School Garden:  Report from Julia.  Earth Day Spring into Growing Coming up on April 22.  We will serve free soups.  Raised beds for greenhouse planned. Bulletin board needed.

Motion: (Katrina) PAC will spend up to $400 towards Earth Day, wood for beds etc. (carried)

Recreation Commission meeting attended by Katrina. They will write a waiver form which allows participants of activities at the school to be covered under Rec #6. i.e.) Badminton, Suzuki program, dance.  Will work as long as there is pre- registration.

Corazon Concert April 16.  Need lasagnas and salads and money for transportation of choir.

Motion:  (Katrina) PAC pay $200 toward transport and food for choir. (Carried)

Proposal for new secondary program: to make a rich learning experience which allows for critical thinking, collaboration and practical skills?  Province moving in this direction.  Good timing.  Will make more possibilities for small high school population. Parent Meeting April 18, 6:30pm.
