We are located in the beautiful West Kootenays. Perhaps the clear air and pristine wilderness have blessed us with a surfeit of creative approaches to education… Certainly a commitment to creative and imaginative educational practice, as well as excellence, is a role we take on with pride.
Despite a high school population (Grades 7 – 12) of only 36 students, we offer a full high school program which combines regular classroom instruction in multi-grade groupings, an innovative approach to Work Experience, on-line courses available through the BC
Learning Network and through our Facilitated Learning Centre, and, experiential learning weeks each year which Grade 10-12 students gain Fine Art and Applied Skills credits for.
We are proud to create powerful and imaginative learning experiences for kids in our tiny rural school. Our students and staff are proud to share the benefits of being small – and – educationally progressive.
Recognized across the region and the province for our talents in creating much with little, we have presented at conferences in the East and West Kootenays, at the Ministry of Education Grad Symposium at Fairmont Hot Springs in October 2002, 2003 and 2005; at Simon Fraser University’s Imagination Education Research conference in 2005; at the Rural Educators Conference in October 2006 and 2008, the Ministry’s Learning in Action Showcase in December 2006 and 2007, at Interactive Innovations in 2007 and 2008, and at Emerging Technologies for Online Learning in San Jose and the BC Principals and Vice Principals Association conference in 2010.
Our school is well-respected for doing lots with very little.
